our church:

the history

Revived in 1941 with the arrival of Robins AFB, First United Methodist was also first in a lot of areas locally. They were the first church to sponsor Boy Scouts, the first church to offer preschool, the first to have a pipe organ and even the first with a church bus.

Over the years, Warner Robins has grown and much of the city has moved far out from our home of 205 North Davis Drive. But we, as well as several other original churches downtown, are committed to staying put, serving and helping within our home community.

From the beginning of our existence, the church has been committed to ministry; international mission trips, soup kitchen, food bank, a TV and Hispanic ministry.

Our Beliefs

God

We believe is Almighty – He is Holy and Good in all His ways. He is worthy of every devotion of our lives. We believe in One God who exists eternally in a fellowship of three distinct and equal persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Grace

We believe in God’s grace for every aspect of our lives. John Wesley, the founder of Methodism viewed God’s grace working in primarily three ways:

  • Prevenient Grace – The grace of God that actively pursues us before we believe and trust our lives to Jesus.

  • Justifying Grace – The grace of God that restores us into a right standing and right relationship through the forgiveness of our sins through faith in Jesus. Through Jesus, we receive a new spiritual life and become the children of God.

  • Sanctifying Grace – The grace of God from the moment of our new life in Jesus to the day we go to heaven that enables us to grow more and more in the full love and likeness of Jesus.

Love

We believe in God’s eternal and unfailing love for everyone. It is through God’s love that we saved from our sinfulness through faith in the death and resurrection of His Son – Jesus. It is through the love of Jesus alive in us that we strive through compassionate kindness to share His love and salvation to the world.

Bible

We believe the Bible is God’s Word. Through the Bible, we experience the heart of God’s love for all people, we discover His character and find direction for daily life. We believe the Bible is the Absolute Truth on every matter of life.

Christian Living

John Wesley and the early Methodists were particularly concerned about inviting people to experience God’s grace and to grow in their knowledge and love of God through disciplined Christian living. They placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action.

This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as “practical divinity” has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today. We invite you to learn more about our rich theological heritage.
